JOVANI
Let the Good Times Roll!
Capping a successful market his past August, Tom and Ethel Smawley of The Encounter in Kingsport, TN, were the excited and proud recipients of a new Ford Mustang. The Mustang drawing was the masterful public relations presentation of the design house Jovani to draw attention the the August market in Atlanta as well as to their new signature offerings in all social occasion categories. Congratulations to Tom and Ethel Smawley and Jovani.
Pictured with Tom and Ethel is Abraham Maslavi of Jovani. ;
Once again, Pageantry and Prom- Time models have captured major titles, continuing the good fortunes vested upon our early discoveries. Not only were the two ladies featured models within the Pageantry & Prom Time Fashion Showcase, both of them also garnered the coveted cover girl status on our Pageantry & PromTime Spring cover. Two-time showcase model and Spring 2004 cover girl Amy Diaz has captured the title of Miss US Earth and will represent the United States during the international Miss Earth Pageant to be held in the Philippines. Amy is also a former Miss RI Teen USA and Miss RI USA titleholder.
Continuing the good fortune, Spring 2009 model and cover girl Alyssa Rivera has been crowned Miss Florida Teen USA and will compete in the upcoming Miss Teen USA pageant. In addition to her current title, Alyssa is also an accomplished recording artist with a newly released single. Congratulations to both Amy and Alyssa. ;
INDUSTRY PASSINGS
The fashion industry lost a treasured friend with the passing of Mr. Harry Mullins of Snellville, Georgia. A fixture in both the Atlanta market as well as throughout the Southeast, Harry was known for his exuberant and positive attitude as well as his willingness to travel the extra mile. Over the years, Harry represented many of the top design houses in the pageant and prom industries, most recently Riva Designs based in Atlanta. Not only was Mr. Mullins an apparel veteran, but he was a friend to many of the retail buyers, designers, and salesmen fortunate enough to cross his path. “Harry was always interested in the person and their families, as well as their business. From the time I met Harry to his requesting a picture from my marriage and then my family, I knew he truly cared about the people around him and he will be missed,” states Pageantry CEO Carl Dunn. ;
INDUSTRY PASSINGS
Floyd Humphrey, known to two generations of pageant families as Grandma Humphrey, died this past August in Richmond, Virginia. A tireless supporter of the positive ideals of pageantry, Grandma Humphrey helped her son, Norman, with pageants for the last 42 years. Thousands of young ladies were always greeted by her smile while attending their competitions. In addition to pageants, Grandma Humphrey was a life-long member of Pine Street Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 50 years and sang in the choir. Premiere Pageants has given an award in her name at each of its pageants for years, an honor given both to her and her late husband, Tom. ;
