Miss Gibraltar became her country’s first ever semi-finalist with a win in Beach Beauty and she was joined by Miss Japan the fast track winner in sport as well as the two talent contest winners Miss Sierra Leone—who also took the World Designer Award for best dress—and Miss Canada. South America got their first contestant safe when Miss Mexico won Top Model and a tearful Miss India sealed her semi-final slot as “Beauty With A Purpose” for her charity work which helps small girls fight poverty.

Gradually, in between the kaleidoscope of South African travelogues and colorful singing and dancing from the local regions, the field was narrowed as judges chose ten more women to join the fast track winners, narrowing the field to just sixteen. The other ten candidates came from Korea, Martinique, Columbia, Poland, Brazil, France, Vietnam, Kaza-khstan, Miss South Africa and Panama.

One hundred and twelve girls took the one month “Tour Of Duty” in the
run up to Miss World, garnering publici-
ty and undertaking charity work before
finally reaching their destination in Jo-
hannasburg, South Africa to vie for the
crown of Miss World. This run-up in-
cluded the award of several “fast track”
places which guaranteed the holders di-
questions, but just seven young women
would step forward for this final honor.
Miss Columbia Daniela Ramos was first
to step forward, she was followed by Miss
Panama Nadege Herrera, Miss Canada
Lena Ma, Miss Mexico Perla Beltran,
Miss Gibraltar Kaiane Aldorino, Miss
South Africa Tatum Keshwar and Miss
France Chloe Mortaud. On this night,
only the top three positions were re-
vealed, leaving five women who might
have won holding hands after Miss South
Africa Tatum Keshwar had claimed sec-
ond runner-up and Miss Mexico Perla
Beltram, a 23-year old engineering grad-
uate, had claimed first runner-up.

LITTLE MISS SOUTH CAROLINA TINY TOT & WEE MISS COMPETITION

Haleigh Heustess of Lexington was named Little Miss South Carolina Overall Princess for 2009.

Special photogenic awards were also presented during the event. Haley

Heustess won the Overall Black & White Photogenic trophy and savings bond; Nora Seigler of Gilbert was the recipient of the Overall Color Photogenic trophy and savings bond and Isabella Gunter of Leesville was the winner of the trophy and savings bond for Overall Cutest Baby Face. □

The 2009 Little Miss South Carolina Tiny Tot & Wee Miss winners were crowned during the 38th annual pageant held in the All-American City of Hartsville, S.C. The pageant featured “All The World” as the opening production and Janet Powers Roller, Miss South Carolina 1997, served as mistress of ceremonies. 219 contestants from across South Carolina competed for more than $38,000 in scholarships and the other prizes which were awarded during pageant week.

The winners will travel the state representing their titles and making appearances on behalf of Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, the Little Miss & Teen Miss S.C. Pageant and the state of South Carolina.

Winners crowned were: Rylee Jeffcoat Miss Tiny Tot South Carolina 2009, Isabella Gunter Wee, Miss Tiny Tot South Carolina 2009, Kinleigh Widener Little Miss Tiny Tot South Carolina 2009 and Breigh Richardson Wee, Miss South Carolina 2009.
