Beating
the Heat
You don’t have to sacrifice your
perfect look just because the
summer sun is sizzling.

This summer’s make-up is soft, sensitive and ultra feminine. Mix and match the season’s best for radiant skin, bright eyes and supple, stained lips. This season’s hottest look recaptures the classic elegance of the 50’s starlet with truly modern grace.

TIMELESS TIP: The 1950’s-style brow is well-groomed and polished, with a defined and bent arch. Simply combing your brows into place will help frame your eyes. For a fuller look, fill in brows with a golden-brown pencil and brush into place, setting with a clear brow gel. Black winged eyeliner is so beautifully powerful that it can carry your whole face with nothing else but a fringe of long luxurious lashes.

THE LOOK: TIMELESS
FACE: You can still have flawless, creamy skin without fear
of foundation meltdowns in the hot summer heat; simply
change your application technique. First, create a barrier
between your skin and the heat with primer. Smooth it over
your face after cleansing and let it dry before following up
with a foundation. Next, sweep foundation on your fore-
head, nose and chin and carefully blend outward with a
Kabuki foundation brush. Use a lighter shade foundation to
brighten up your eyes by placing it close to the inner and
outer corners of your eyes and blend with the same foun-
dation brush. Finally, dust a finishing powder all over to elim-
inate shine for perfect radiant skin.
CHEEKS: Brighten your skin with a peachy cream blush. Be
sure to blend thoroughly, as smooth is key this summer.
EYES: One of the season’s easiest looks is to sweep a
matte shadow in a neutral shade from the lid to the crease
but no higher. Terra-cotta, thanks to its golden undertones,

is the most modern. For more definition, line the eye with a
chocolate brown pencil. Steer clear of black, as that can be
too dramatic (even for summer nights) when paired with rich
lip color. Eyeliner should be kept to only the top lash line,
which looks less “made-up” than rimming the entire eye.
Finish with black mascara.
LIPS: Lipsticks and matching lip liners are a makeup bag
staple this summer and few colors say glamour like red.
First, apply lip liner all over the lip, paying close attention to
stay within your lip line. Softer lip pencils can be used just
to line or for all-over color. For a dramatic evening look,
apply lipstick directly from the tube. For a more subdued
shade, dab on lipstick with a lip brush. If red still seems too
intense for your active summer days, a new ultra modern
approach to colorful lips is to wear it as a stain. Either use
a new stain formula or simply take your traditional red, press
on to the lips and blot with a tissue — no need to line.
