AMAZING RACE

Miss America represented
among Amazing Race
finalists

Former Miss America Erika Dunlap is no stranger to competition, having won on one of the grandest stages in all of pageantry. The 2004 Miss America winner and first ever African American woman to win the Miss Florida title teamed up with her husband Brian Kleinschmidt to take on the CBS Emmy Award-winning reality competition The Amazing Race this season for their shot at winning the $1 million grand prize. The show pits 12 teams of two people (couples, friends, siblings, etc.) in exotic locales throughout eight countries, as each team has to complete tasks in order to advance to the next location over a period of 21 days. Erika’s and Brian’s efforts earned them a third place finish overall, but not without some controversy.

This season’s adventures closed out as the Top 3 teams traveled from Prague to Las Vegas in the final episode, with a variety of competitions leading to the proverbial million dollar jackpot. Once the teams arrived in Vegas, they had to track down an Elvis Presley impersonator, scale the side of the Mandalay Bay resort hotel, and bungee jump on the stage at Cirque Du Soleil. But the task that proved most perplexing to the former Miss America and her husband was one in which each team had to count out $1 million in poker chips. While Erika and Brian attest they counted properly, they were instead dropped from second to third place because of some human error.

In the end, this season’s winners were longtime friends and sweethearts Meghan Rickey and Cheyne Whitney. Second place went to a set of bickering brothers, Dan and Sam McMillen, who provided a great deal of humor and color with their antics throughout the season. ;

Who’s who of modeling
on hand

From the runways of Paris and Milan to the pages of high fashion magazines, former international model Jamie Joyce has had many incredible experiences and worn exquisite clothing and jewelry, but none could match her wedding day or the gown she wore when she married Brian Mannella at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Tampa, Florida, with Monsignor Laurence Higgins officiating. “It was the best day of our lives,” the new bride and groom agreed.

Jamie’s parents, Jim and Leslie Joyce, and Brian’s parents, Vittorio and Debbie Mannella, welcomed close to 200 family members and friends, as well as leading modeling industry professionals— including Nancy Mancuso, chief operating officer of the International Model and Talent Association ( IMTA); Heather Scott, owner of Power Model Management Asia; Glenn Gordon from Raw Artists, Los Angeles; Teresa Pollman of Wilhelmina Models, N. Y. and L.A.); Selena Wallace owner of Wallace Management-World Wide in Canada); Joey Hunter former president of Ford Models and co-owner of CH Management, NY; photographers Jae Feinberg, Hal-stan Williams and Glenn Gordon, make-up artist Matthew Jarrell and hair stylists Ben and Zondra De Cordova.

“It was so nice to see my Barbizon family there for support,” said Jamie, referring to Timothy McCormick, owner of Barbizon-Tampa (where Jamie is the runway coach and assistant IMTA director, and her mother is the senior operating officer) and other co-workers. After the beautiful wedding and reception, Jamie and Brian left for a honeymoon in San Francisco, Napa Valley, and the fabulous 5-star resort, Las Ventanas in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. ;
